Closed: Dog Control Measures Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) public consultation (30 January - 27 February 2026)

Great Yarmouth Borough Council consulted on whether to continue for another three years a legal order designed to promote responsible dog ownership on publicly accessible land across the borough.

In April 2017, the council created a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for the borough, bringing long‑standing dog control measures under updated legislation and aligning the rules with community expectations. All PSPOs last for an initial period of three years and must be reviewed to ensure they are still required. Unless renewed by full council, the current order is due to expire on 31 March 2026.

The council held a public consultation from 30 January to 27 February 2026, asking individuals, landowners and organisations whether they supported continuing the existing order for another three years. As part of the review, the council also proposed an amendment to include an additional site — the Great Yarmouth Marketplace area — with a requirement for dogs to be kept on a leash.

This consultation ran until 27 February 2026 and is now closed. You can find the published versions of PSPOs on our website.
